When implementing crate training puppies respond well to house breaking. With smaller puppies, they can urinate anywhere because they are not able to control themselves. Crate training takes advantage of your puppy’s natural instinct of not urinating in its place of eating and sleeping.

You can remain assured most of the time that your puppy will not untidy its sleeping place, making it easy for you to get a create to house train your puppy.  You must always keep in mind that when crate training puppies, the crate should never be seen as a punishment area. Constant despising of the crate by the puppy means that it is not ready to adjust to it.

Give your puppy a crate that is bigger than him to allow him to roam around with ease, but at the same time it should not be too large. A lot of space also means that there is every chance of an incident.

It would be better for your pup to keep the create in that part of the house where there is always someone around. Avoid placing it in a lonely place like the garage or the basement, where your puppy is going to feel alone leading to urinating and defecating just due to unease. If you are not allowing your pup to share your bed at night, or sleep next to your bed in its bed, then take the crate into the bedroom with you.

Begin the training by keeping the pet inside the crate with the door open. Place some comfortable cloth, treat and toy inside the crate to let the puppy relax. The puppy would love to enter the crate to get the snack or the toy. Slowly when the puppy starts accepting the crate, check by closing the door for a small period of time.

Once the puppy is happy in its crate, even with the door closed, you can start leaving it in there for longer and longer periods. If your puppy is young, make sure that the door is not closed over an hour after which you can take him out for walk.

As the puppy starts moving out positively, encourage it and give it treats. But, if there are no positive results yet, it would indicate that the puppy need more time to start getting out. If this happens then send it back in its crate. With age, increase the duration for which the pup is moved out, and you will find that crate training puppies method is actually effective in housebreaking.

In all circumstances, the crate should not be made a place of punishment. If the pup whines inside the crate, wait for sometime before you move him out otherwise it would be a negative reinforcement. But, if you find the pup crying for over 15 minutes, you need to take him out so as not to leave it scared and develop mental issues when left in such a state inside the crate.

You need to know that crate training puppies method works for maximum percentage of puppies, but there are some who can’t get accustomed to this method. If you are unable to train him using this method, you need to test other potty training techniques.
